In a hypothetical situation, a company that seemed interested stops visiting a supplier’s website. The dashboard shows less activity, and the sales team lowers that account’s priority. Meanwhile, someone in the buying group compares solutions using an AI assistant and discusses the alternatives with colleagues. The research continues, although much of it does not appear on the dashboard.
This mismatch illustrates a limitation of first-party intent data. Interactions captured through a company’s own channels provide useful evidence, but they describe only the activity that could be observed. Silence may indicate a lack of interest. It can also reflect research taking place outside the channels being monitored. Distinguishing between those possibilities affects both outreach timing and the confidence placed in a score.
Atlantic Tech, a data intelligence company founded by Peter Kazan, describes a model that connects signal collection and interpretation with commercial action.

The Research Continues Elsewhere
A May 2026 Gartner survey helps gauge the use of AI in B2B buying research. Among 645 B2B buyers surveyed from August through September 2025, 45% said they had used generative AI, mainly to gather information about vendors and products. Participants reported consulting an average of seven information sources during a recent purchase.
In an analysis published in August 2026, Adobe discusses buying research conducted through AI interfaces outside the channels a supplier can monitor. A question asked through another service does not automatically appear in the interaction records of the company being evaluated.
What First-Party Intent Data Can Show
First-party intent data consists of information gathered directly through interactions with an organization, such as website visits, forms, and responses to content. The level of identification varies with the interaction. A request that includes a name and company allows the interaction to be linked to a self-identified contact. An anonymous visit offers less information, even when technology can associate it with an account.
Third-party intent data can add activity observed in other environments covered by the provider. Its usefulness depends on the available sources, the quality of the matching, and the context. Classifying data as first-party or third-party does not guarantee a complete view of buying research or establish access to private conversations with AI assistants.
The discussion of intent data accuracy begins at that boundary. A record can accurately describe a visit and still support an overstated conclusion about buying intent. Dun & Bradstreet notes that researching a topic does not establish a genuine need, an approved budget, authority, or willingness to buy. Sound interpretation requires context beyond the captured event.
An Account Is Bigger Than One Visitor
There is also the question of whom a signal represents. An account, a buying group, and an individual are distinct units of analysis. Linking activity to a company does not, by itself, identify the visitor, their role, or their influence on the decision.
Adobe’s explanation of buying groups highlights the involvement of people with different interests and levels of influence. The same organization can evaluate solutions for different needs at the same time. For example, one professional researches technical requirements for a project while another examines contract terms for a different purchase. Combining the two activities without preserving that context can make separate initiatives look like a single opportunity.
From Activity to a Conversation
One way to examine signals is to ask what each new piece of evidence adds.
| Observed evidence | What it adds | What remains unresolved |
| Visit to a relevant page | Interaction with a topic or solution | Reason for the visit and business need |
| Repeated relevant engagement | Continued observed attention | Who is involved and whether there is an active project |
| Need stated in a form | Problem reported by the contact | Priority, budget, and decision-making process |
| Conversation with an identified contact | Opportunity to verify context and timeframe | Agreement from other stakeholders and the final decision |
These differences change the sales response. A single visit may justify further observation. A stated need provides a reason to ask a specific question. Before acting, the team needs to check the record’s source, how current it is, the level of identification, and its relevance to the problem the company is trying to solve.
Human contact still has a place in this sequence. In the same Gartner survey, 69% of buyers said they preferred to validate AI-generated information with sales representatives. A conversation can clarify what a series of events does not reveal, from a technical constraint to the involvement of other departments in the decision.
How Atlantic Tech Connects Data and Decisions
The Atlantic Tech data intelligence approach emphasizes software developed in-house and the use of data to guide decisions. Founded by Peter Kazan in 2020 and based in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the company describes a model connecting insight collection, interpretation, audience targeting and engagement, and data management systems.
In its explanation of B2B data intelligence, the company describes collecting, cleaning, matching, and scoring signals, followed by applying the information and feeding results back into the system. In articles on intent-based data, Kazan emphasizes the value of relevance and timing rather than treating the accumulation of records as an end in itself.
This model places signal interpretation between collection and action. That is where coverage becomes relevant, because a record can be correct without providing enough context to guide sales outreach.
What Does a Quiet Account Actually Mean?
When an account appears less active, useful analysis starts with precise questions. Which channels were covered? Does the record describe an identified person or an association with a company? What evidence is missing before concluding that a commercial opportunity exists?
A dashboard shows the activity captured by the channels it monitors. Before lowering an account’s priority, the team needs to check whether interest has declined or whether less activity is visible. The next step depends on that distinction
