What is an AD Code?
An authorized dealer code (AD Code), is a 14-digit number that banks give to customers who can deal in foreign currency. The Reserve Bank of India has given its approval to these banks. When they give you this code, it tells you exactly which branch your foreign money will go to. It is like a special tag that links your company to the customs office, your bank, and your bank.
Why Is AD Code Required?
Indian Customs wants to make sure that your payments are going through the right routes whenever you ship things out of the country. That is where the AD Code comes in. Your shipping bill might not even be accepted if your AD Code is not listed with Customs through ICEGATE. This means you can not get export benefits like GST refunds or tax drawbacks. So, it is not just useful; it is really important.
Requirements
The following are the requirements of AD Code:
- ICEGATE Registration
Do not do anything else until you have signed up on ICEGATE, which is the official website for Indian Customs. You can use a digital name like a normal person or use a simpler account. No matter what, you have to be on ICEGATE to begin the AD Code application process.
- Digital Signature Certificate (Class-3)
You will need a Class-3 digital signature if you use the computer often. This is a computer signature of your handwriting, and it helps keep your papers safe. Someone on your team or even a stranger who has joined ICEGATE can use theirs if you do not have one.
- Supporting Documents
You will also need to get two crucial papers ready. First, a clear picture or scan of your bank balance or passbook shows your business account information. The second is a letter or proof from your bank showing you have an account. You need to upload these papers to the e-SANCHIT system. Once you do that, you will be given a unique IRN code to use when you register.
- Port Location in ICEGATE Profile
In your ICEGATE profile, you must add the ports you want to export. Many people forget this step. If you do not do this, the system will not even let you enter your AD Code for that address. So make sure that you added your ports properlytwice before proceeding.
Step-by-Step AD Code Registration Process
- Login to ICEGATE
First, use your username and password to log in to the ICEGATE website. After logging in, find the menu on the left and click “Bank Account Management.” This is where you will manage all of your export-linked bank information.
- Open AD Code Registration Dashboard
Select “Authorised Dealer Code Registration” from the dropdown menu in this box and click “Submit.” If everything is okay, it will take you to the AD Code Registration Dashboard. If you see a message that says, “No location added for the user,” you must first add the port to your profile.
- Add New Bank Account
There will be an “Add New Account” button if you have not entered an AD Code for your chosen port. When you click it, a form will show up. For each bank, you will need to write the bank’s name, the branch, the account number, the 14-digit AD Code, and the customs address. You must also enter the IRN and ICEGATE ID from the files you uploaded earlier. Before you move forward, make sure that all the facts are correct.
- OTP Verification
ICEGATE will send a six-digit OTP to the email address and phone number you provided after you finish the form. Type in that OTP to prove who you are and finish the process. Watch your phone and email for the OTP. If you miss it or it ends, you must do this step again.
- Track Application Status
After you send everything, ICEGATE will start checking your request. You can see how far along it is if you click the “View” icon next to your app. Statuses like “System Pending” or “Custom Port Approved” tell you everything is okay. If it is turned down, the system will tell you what went wrong so you can fix it and try again.
- Modify Existing AD Code Bank Account
You can use the “Modify Account” button on the same screen to change your bank information if you need to, like if you move or exchange banks. Choose where you are, make any necessary changes to the fields, and enter your new IRN and ICEGATE ID. You will get a new OTP to make sure the changes are real. Following submission, the process is the same as the first register.
