Dental Nursing Career in the United Kingdom

Dental Nursing Career

The role of a dental nurse occupation is to provide chair side support to all dental professionals and ensure high standards of cleanliness and infection control. Dental nurses prepare instruments, materials and medicaments for dental procedures, mix materials, sterilise instruments, keep records, note dictation, carry out stock control and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout their visit.

Dental nurses work in a clinical environment that could be located in a NHS general dental practice, hospital, private dental practice, specialist dental practice, community dental service or military dental clinic. The clinical environment is called a dental surgery and consists of a dental chair, x-ray unit and various equipment and instruments required for dentistry.

Dental nurses must either hold a recognised qualification and be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) or be working towards registration on an approved training course. The National Diploma in Dental Nursing is a recognised qualification which is accredited by the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses. This certificate can be obtained by working in a dental practice while undertaking studies to prepare for the qualification.

Dental Tutors is the UK’s leading NEBDN accredited online dental nurse course provider, based in London, UK.

Qualified dental nurses can earn up to £33,000 per while working full-time in the UK. Until students receive the qualification they can work as trainee dental nurses. This helps them to earn while they learn.

Study Online

Studying online provides great flexibility as students can choose the time to study whenever it is convenient for them. This allows them to combine the studies with any other commitments they may have.

Distance learning and online courses allow you to study wherever you are, arranging your studies around your work or family life. You learn using study materials and online learning resources that are designed for active learning.

Online learning not only means that students can access information from wherever they are but also ensures that resources are always available. For example, instead of having to visit a library, students are able to access books online. Whether they are at an airport or on a long train journey, everything is accessible. Therefore, with younger students having busier lives and always being on the move, an online education may better suit their lifestyle.
