<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Firstly, one has to be at par with the eligibility criteria of the UPSC for the civil service examination to be able to appear for the selection process.</li><li>The first step is to pass the UPSC CSE selection process. The selection process would be of three stages. The first step would be the MCQ stage, followed by the written and descriptive stage and finally the personality test and interview.</li><li>On passing all the steps, based on the merit, preference of the candidate and training one successfully becomes an IFS officer.</li></ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="how-is-a-candidate-trained-approved-for-the-indian-foreign-services"><strong>How Is A Candidate Trained &; Approved For The Indian Foreign Services?</strong></h2>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>On passing all the stages of the selection process, getting the results in favor and opting for Indian Foreign Services as the desired department an entrant undergoes a composite and comprehensive conditioning at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. ;</li><li>In the beginning, an entrant begins the training, with colleagues from other services. Thereafter he/she joins the Foreign Service Institute in New Delhi.</li><li>The course at FSI provides an awareness of general economic and political principles. The training process is intended to provide entrant diplomatic knowledge, diplomatic qualities and diplomatic skills. ;</li><li>The course provides lectures, attachments with various wings of the Government as well as familiarization tours both within the country and abroad. ;</li><li>At the end of the training programme selected officers are assigned a compulsory foreign language (CFL). ;</li><li>After a short and straightforward duration of desk attachment in the Ministry of External Affairs, an officer is assigned to an Indian Mission abroad in a nation where the allocated CFL is the native language and further enlisted in a language course there to develop proficiency in his CFL.</li><li>In the end, officers have to pass an examination before he/she is approved for service.</li></ul>
