One must first have the necessary artistic skills. One must be able to draw, sketch, and paint in order to create tattoo designs.

In addition, one must be able to use a tattoo machine in order to apply the tattoos and have knowledge of the different inks and how to mix them properly.

Must also be able to sterilize the equipment properly to avoid any infections.
